One of the oldest uses of bubble technology is for the prevention of ice buildup \u2013 ice prevention \u2013 of water ways. Since water reaches its highest density at 4\u00b0C (~ 39\u00b0F), the beds of waterbodies normally keep this temperature even when the surface is frozen. Rising bubbles create an upward flow that carries warmer water from the bottom to the surface.
