Floating oil barriers for water protection

Permanent oil barriers in flowing waters

Communal waste water is oftentimes led into natural streams. These underlie explicit laws and regulatory requirements, though, the risk of a larger spill of light fluids, especially from industrial waste water, cannot be ruled out.

An oil barrier proves to be the optimal solution to prevent large scale pollution. Costly clean-ups are averted.

CONSTRUCTION OF SWIMMING OIL BARRIERS

An oil barrier, made of high-strength polyester fabric, is fixed on floating tanks on both ends. Those tanks glide in guidance rails, so that they adjust to varying water levels. The rail can be fixed directly to vertical, paved shore edges. On unfortified banks, the fixture must be installed on a backing.

All guiding rail components are made of stainless materials or oil-resistant plastics. Barriers dyed in a natural green, and components in nature conform colors can be installed so as to interfere as little as possible with the landscape of ecologically sensible areas.

An early warning system made of pontoons equipped with oil well and oil warning systems can be placed ahead of the barrier in order to detect pollution with light fluids such as oils. The system allows for secure monitoring of the waterbody and needs very little maintenance.

In case of pollution, the system triggers optical and acoustic warning signals. These can be telecommunicated to a constantly manned control point. Furthermore, it is possible to adjust the system´s sensitivity in order for it to detect the slightest amount of light liquids, or a certain layer thickness.

Every system is constructed after the customer´s wishes. We also offer regular maintenance services to ensure perfect functionality.

Technical prerequisites::
Oil barrier: high-strength polyester cloth
Adjustment to varying water levels: max. 3 m, or special construction
Max. flow rate: 0,3 – 0,4 m/s, higher velocities can be reduced by structural measures
Lowest water level: 0,5 m

We also offer mobile oil barriers for instant use. The barriers are used in following areas:

  • Ports, especially oil handling docks
  • Securing entire tankers with “Iteecran-oil-barriers”
  • Oil barriers with higher buoyancy for higher flow rates
  • Mobile oil barriers for containment of accidents
  • Power plants
  • Rainwater retention basins
